R-U-A Reliable Geek?
Can you repair, upgrade, troubleshoot, program, build, slice,
dice, cook or tastefully garnish computers? Can you explain how
you do this without putting the other person listening to sleep
or into a coma? Have you learned why not to mention your interest
in computers to people at purely social events? Do you openly
anticipate the delivery of new computer flyers to your home?
If you can answer 'YES' to any of the questions above,
maybe you're just like us; extraordinary. We're people who seek
opportunities for honest & hardworking geeks and who exhibit at
least one (okay, maybe at least two or three) of such traits,
plus a few others (okay, maybe lots of others).
What we're really after are geek liaisons, which means you
go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can
hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as
friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between
geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one in
which you could be proud. In fact, you already can think
clearly in both languages and may be completely unaware that
the translation is taking place. You can make a good deal of
money as a translator.
example dialogue:
Normal person [to You]: Tell our geek we need him to work
this weekend.
You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have
to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines.
Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but
the dilithium crystals are overheating! We need more crystals
Captain!
You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.
Understand? Okay, here's the deal...
